SharePoint and the Environment
I am definitely environment conscious. I subscribe to the "Three R's": Reduce (my questionable eating habits not included), Reuse and Recycle. I am not over the top with it...I am more of an everything-in-moderation kind of guy. I recently presented on going green with SharePoint at the Evansville SharePoint Users Group, then followed up with a blog post on ways to collect data electronically. I must say, that many companies that use SharePoint have only scratched the surface of how to use it as their single source of knowledge management. Add the platform functionality and -- via some custom code or third party software for faxing, scanning, emailing -- you have the ability to make your office paper free. That is a worthy cause that will also pay dividends in efficiencies if done right. Think about it, research it and start going green!
If you need some inspiration, I can think of no better examples of thinking green than a group of 3rd graders from a small town in southern Indiana. In fact, it is the town where I live and my daughter (affectionately known as the "Teddy Bear") is in the class. Earth Day is this coming Tuesday, April 22, 2009. Do you have anything planned?
